DICE
Disaster Recovery Center
The Federal Emergency Management Agency has acknowledged forty-six Major Disaster Declarations so far in 2002, up from forty-five in all of 2001. Whether tornados, winter storms, or floods, the cost to our economy is immeasurable, as every time a disaster strikes, businesses in its wake are physically and financially damaged. The DICE Corporation Disaster Recovery Center is a state-of-the-art backup facility designed to allow central stations to continue their operations during a state of emergency.
The Disaster Recovery Center is housed in the 27,000 square foot world headquarters of DICE Corporation in Bay City, Michigan. The 28-station facility uses DICE's Central Station Automation and has uninterrupted power and multiple PBX switches. The facilities receive separate electrical feeds from two substations in the area and are also connected to DICE's 200 KVA generator for a third source of power. The computer center containing the backup facility has both a primary and secondary cooling system using glycol-chilled dry and wet redundant air conditioning with an emergency battery backup.
DICE Corporation provided emergency recovery facilities to New Orleans-based alarm company Alarm Monitoring Services (AMS) as Hurricane Lili pounded on the gulf coast and swept through the New Orleans area in early October, 2002. AMS monitors thousands of New Orleans businesses and homes and faced with the disaster posed by the category four Hurricane Lili, the company was in need of a backup center to operate until the storm subsided. The central station operated from the DICE facilities in Bay City for about 24 hours during Hurricane Lili and was able to fully manage all emergency situations without any problems. AMS also used DICE Corporation's Disaster Recovery Services in late September, 2002, during Tropical Storm Isidore. For more information on those events, please visit DICE's weekly news archive

The Disaster Recovery Center will be offered to DICE clients as a monthly service as well as an hourly service when the center is live. DICE Corporation is providing this type of center as a service to help clients to not only be more competitive, but offer better public safety to the alarm industry as a whole.
